How We Get Involved

We know that building strong communities is as important as providing a home. Sanctuary works across the country to support local people and agencies to develop the services essential to creating thriving neighbourhoods. Our approach includes:

Helping residents to find solutions to local problems themselves by building their capacity to manage projects.

We are currently working with resident led Shiregreen Community Homes to develop a local action plan to tackle the economic development of the Shiregreen estate in Sheffield.

We also supported the Ardler Community in Dundee to develop the Ardler Village Trust, a resident led community development organisation delivering community services across the local area.

Working in partnership with other local agencies to maximise the impact of existing services on our communities.

For example, we work with the Citizen’s Advice Bureau and other specialist Financial Inclusion organisations across the country to increase access to debt advice, affordable credit and financial capability for our residents.

Running our annual community initiatives fund, which provides grants for more strategic community projects of between £10,000-250,000.

For an overview of previous recipients of Community Initiatives Fund please go to the Corporate Social Responsibility section.

Developing bids for major government and charitable funding initiatives in order to support strategic community projects.

We are currently working with the DWP, Groundwork UK and the National Housing Federation to provide access to employment for long term unemployed young people through the Future Jobs Fund.

As a social enterprise, we also seek to maximise the impact of our core business activities on our communities through a strong culture of Corporate Social Responsibility. This includes taking an ethical and sustainable approach to employment, procurement and investment.

If you would like to learn more about local initiatives and opportunities please contact your local resident involvement officer.
