Debt of thanks to Charter and CAB

Charter debt advice worker Lorraine Tustain

Charter Community Housing residents can now seek free, expert financial advice and support with managing their money thanks to a new partnership project with the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB).

Charter, a member of leading UK housing provider Sanctuary Group, has provided funding for a full-time debt case worker, Lorraine Tustian, to provide support to residents and help them keep control of their finances.

Employed by the CAB, a voluntary legal and money advice service, Lorraine is based at Hindle House, Charter’s office in Banbury and she also offers to visit residents in their own homes if that is more convenient for them.

Lorraine brings a wealth of experience to her role, having worked for the CAB for ten years, and her key responsibilities are to provide confidential, one-to-one support and advice to residents on a range of issues including budgeting, rent arrears, priority debts and negotiating with creditors.

Lorraine said:"I am really enjoying working closely with Charter and assisting residents who find that they are struggling with debts.

“It’s great that Charter recognises the benefits of impartial debt advice which should help residents prioritise their finances so they can keep up to date with their rent. Hopefully the advice that we can offer will enable residents to budget more effectively, remain in control of their finances and avoid money problems.”

Harj Lota, Charter Community Housing Managing Director, added: “It’s important in today’s economic climate that residents have access to independent financial support and by working in partnership with the CAB, we are providing them with a one-stop-shop where they can get free, expert advice when paying their rent.”
