Kerri rises to the loveLIFE challenge
Sanctuary Housing resident, Kerri Underhill, 26, is taking on the biggest challenge of her life and tackling her health head on.
Mother to an energetic four-year-old, Emilia, Kerri knows just how tiring it is to work, bring up a child, and find time to keep healthy. Keen to set a good example to her daughter, Kerri says: “It’s even harder when you’re a single working mum like myself.
“It’s difficult not to rely on quick and easy dinners. Time is short, as is money, and sometimes having a healthy meal and five-a-day hasn’t been a priority.”
However, thanks to loveLIFE, Kerri is determined to set little Emilia a good example to prevent her becoming one of the 17% of children under 10 who are classified as obese in Torbay.
An avid football player, Kerri now takes Emilia to football training and they are both loving every minute of it.
Kerri added: “I want to make sure my daughter has a good quality of life, plays outside, rides her bike and eats well. For that to happen I need to be able to keep up!”
Two months in and Kerri is already feeling the benefits of her new regime, which involves eating healthy home-cooked family meals, walking and going to the gym. She no longer feels as tired when playing football and can more than keep up with her youngster.
Kerri said: “If getting myself fit can help my daughter live a long, happy and healthy life, then I’m ready to do my fair share of hard work!”
