Rural project brings much-needed new homes in Cornwall
€¹Work has begun on a housing development near Bude which will create seven much-needed new homes for North Cornwall residents. The properties in Grimscott, by leading housing and care providerSanctuary Group, will be available to local residents for affordable rent and could benefit young people and families who want to remain living in the area.
The new energy efficient homes, which are being built on the Grimscott Estate near Bude, have been designed to be in-keeping with other traditional Cornish properties.
Mike Santon, head of development for the South West, said: “Creating new modern homes in rural locations such as Grimscott ensures the long term future of these small villages and is vital in helping young people and families continue to stay close to where they grew up.
“Although this is only a relatively small development, it is a valuable addition to rural housing and will provide good quality homes which meet the needs of the area.”
Cornwall Council Cabinet member for housing and planning Mark Kaczmarek said: “Here in Cornwall there is a huge demand for rented housing with the number of local applicants on the Homechoice register topping 22,000. The Council is working to build more affordable rented housing and is keen to work with housing associations and other partners to deliver high quality homes for local people.”
The development is being funded by Sanctuary and the Government’s Homes and Communities Agency. Work is expected to be completed early next year.
