Jacqui Preen, a care assistant atRavenhurst Care Home, which provides care for the elderly, including residential care and day care, was runner-up in the West Midlands finals of the most prestigious award ceremonies on the care calendar last year, in The Care Newcomer Award category.
Her passion for people was so inspiring, she is now in the running for the national finals of the awards, which take place on Saturday 12 May in London.
Before she joined Ravenhurst Care Home 18 months ago, Jacqui was a hairdresser and visited her late grandmother Elsie White at the home
She said: “I had wanted to go into care for a long time, but wasn’t able to because of commitments with my children. I loved the home and decided I wanted to be part of.
“I love the residents; they give me so much more than I think I ever give them and they just make everything worthwhile. They are like my second family. I get so much satisfaction from my work – being able to make somebody smile is so rewarding for me.”
Jacqui was nominated for the regional award by her manager Anastasia Meredith.
Anastasia said: “There are some people who just have a natural desire to care and understand the importance of putting your residents at the heart of everything you do. Jacqui is one of those people, consistently going that extra mile for our residents.”
