Top training for Sanctuary residents

Sanctuary Housing residents from Market Drayton, Shropshire, have been given the opportunity to learn new plumbing skills which will allow them to deal with minor repair jobs in their homes quickly and effectively.

Staff from Sanctuary’s Internal Maintenance Service (IMS) visited residents in the region to demonstrate simple and useful plumbing jobs including how to isolate the water supply to taps, where to locate the stopcock, changing tap washers and unblocking sinks.

The aim of the training was to equip residents with the knowledge of basic plumbing skills which will allow them to carry out minor repairs and maintenance to the water systems in their homes without having to contact Sanctuary’s repairs team.

The training proved a huge success, with residents reporting they now feel comfortable about carrying out such tasks.

Resident Samantha Winter said: “I have learned lots of new things and I would be interested in any similar activities in the future.”

Dennis Evans, Sanctuary’s director of maintenance, added: “We are always looking to provide support to our residents and by giving them the opportunity to take part in this training they have learnt new skills which will give them the confidence to carry out minor plumbing jobs in their own homes.”
