A picture of Braiden's story

Braiden Hartles – accountancy apprentice

Accountancy apprentice Braiden had originally planned to continue his studies at university after completing his A-levels.

But that all changed after he came to Sanctuary for a week’s work experience and saw exactly what an apprenticeship had to offer.

Braiden said: “I hadn’t heard a lot about apprenticeships and initially thought the work placement with Sanctuary would be a good opportunity to gain some experience before heading to university.

“My decision quickly changed after speaking with the apprentices here about the programme and hearing how much they enjoyed it and would recommend it.”

Braiden started his apprenticeship at Sanctuary in September 2017 and is now studying for his level 4 Accountancy apprenticeship, having recently completed his level 3.

During that time, he has had the opportunity to work in a variety of business areas and gain valuable knowledge and experience of how each operates.

He explained: “The thing I enjoy most about my apprenticeship is the variety of work I get to be involved in.

“I have worked with many different finance teams and been involved in a wide variety of tasks and projects, gaining valuable experience of how finance works at Sanctuary.

“I have gained a huge amount of experience and been supported every step of the way.”

Braiden hopes to become a chartered accountant and says his apprenticeship is giving him the best possible start to his career.

“I would definitely recommend an apprenticeship to anyone,” he said. “You gain valuable work and life experience and a nationally-recognised qualification.”

Braiden is also one of several Sanctuary apprentices who serve as Young Apprentice Ambassadors for the West Midlands, visiting schools, colleges and local events to spread the word about apprenticeships.

He said: “I wasn’t really aware of apprenticeships when I was considering my career choices, but if I had been I would have started looking for an apprenticeship a lot sooner.

“I don’t want others to be in the same position and I enjoy the opportunity to meet people and talk to them about apprenticeships and the fantastic opportunities they offer.”
