Mollie Gillott – children and young people workforce apprentice

Mollie had always wanted to pursue a career working with children and young people, so an apprenticeship at Blacon Adventure Playground in Chester was the perfect fit.

The playground is owned and managed by Avenue Services – a joint venture between Sanctuary and Cheshire West and Chester Council – and is one of the most popular facilities for young people in Blacon, welcoming hundreds of visitors each year.

Mollie’s role involves planning and delivering activities, helping look after the animals at the playground’s on-site farm and ensuring children’s safety and wellbeing while they visit the site.

She said: “My apprenticeship has been an amazing experience, every day is a highlight.

“I’ve gained knowledge, new skills and experience and had opportunities to plan projects and take responsibility for activities. I work with a great team and I love being able to make a difference to children’s lives.”

Mollie first saw the apprenticeship opportunity advertised online and knew immediately that it was the right role for her. She would encourage anyone thinking about their next step or looking for a way to access their dream career to consider an apprenticeship.

She said: “Apprenticeships create opportunities for everyone and allow you to gain practical experience and qualifications.

“The support you receive as an apprentice is fantastic. I have a mentor who works with me at all times, as well as great colleagues and an amazing manager who help and guide me every step of the way.

“I would love to keep working at Blacon Adventure Playground after finishing my apprenticeship and I would 100 per cent recommend an apprenticeship to anyone.”
