Sam Brown – housing apprentice

Housing apprentice Sam was attracted to an apprenticeship by the opportunity to learn on the job while continuing his studies at the same time.

He said: “After finishing school I had jobs working in a supermarket and in a garage repairing cars.

“I heard about Sanctuary’s apprentice programme from a friend and it sounded like a great opportunity to earn while learning and gain the skills needed to secure a job in the future.”

Sam joined Sanctuary in early 2018 and is now working towards his level 3 Housing apprenticeship, having successfully completed level 2.

Based in Ely, Cambridgeshire, Sam’s apprenticeship has seen him working with both the local housing and maintenance teams, gaining valuable work experience in different areas of the business.

And he says the support he has received from colleagues and supervisors every step of the way has helped make his apprenticeship a fantastic experience.

Sam said: “I have received amazing support from my managers, mentors and colleagues, who are always available to support me and answer any questions.

“I enjoy the atmosphere and being treated as part of the team and it has allowed me to greatly develop my knowledge and understanding of the business.”

Sam would urge any other young people considering their next step to consider an apprenticeship.

He said: “I would recommend Sanctuary’s apprenticeship programme to anyone. It’s well thought out and accommodating and I feel supported in everything I do.

“I know my Sanctuary apprenticeship is preparing me for a successful career and putting me in a great position for the future.”
