As a major national and local employer, Sanctuary believes it has a responsibility to help prepare the next generation of talent for the workplace.

Our structured partnerships with schools and colleges include delivering talks on business, getting involved with careers events and providing CV and interview training. We also encourage our staff to share their knowledge with local schools and academies by being actively involved in the classroom.

These arrangements not only prepare young people for the world of work, they help raise their aspirations, give them ambition, and motivate them to continue their studies.

Work experience

Work experience allows students to gain a valuable insight into the working world and can help them with their career and education choices.

Work Experience Week

Each year, we hold our own Work Experience Week at our Worcester office, in which several students from local sixth forms, colleges and universities join us to gain experience in the world of work.

Our programme

At Sanctuary Group, we offer a tailored, unpaid work experience programme for students in their final two years of school or on a post-16 course at a number of locations across the country.

Our structured programme allows students to work with a variety of departments across the Group and gain a real insight into our organisation. It is designed to ensure students get the most out of their time with us and to gain a taste of life in a fast-paced, growing business.

To provide a good understanding of the way our business works, we believe it is best to involve students in ‘doing’ real tasks, rather than ‘observing’.

Personal approach

During the placement, students will spend time in different areas of our organisation. The placement could include anything from Human Resources to Finance or Information Services to Public Relations and Communications.

If a student has an interest in a particular area of our business, we streamline the programme to their individual interests.

Students are paired up with a staff mentor who is available to support the student throughout their placement and answer any questions.

Each student attends a CV and interview skills workshop during the programme and is given the opportunity to review their experience.

A history of success

Our programme has been available to students across the country for over eight years and has received positive feedback from both students and their schools. View our testimonials to see what past work experience students and school staff have said.
