With an interest in working within the business side of the music industry in the future, Lisa was drawn to a Business Administration apprenticeship with Sanctuary Scotland.
After studying Music and Sound Production at NC Level at college, Lisa decided that an apprenticeship was her preferred option over a degree.
“It gives you first-hand experience of the work, while also gaining a qualification. It is a good way to earn money while you learn new skills which are relevant to working in an office environment.”
Since joining Sanctuary Scotland in July 2016, Lisa has been working within the housing team and her role entails working on reception and doing admin work, including updating spreadsheets and creating mail merges for the housing officers.
With support from a representative from First4Skills, Lisa is working towards a Level 2 qualification in Business and Administration and Level 3 ICT.
“I have learned a lot since starting at Sanctuary. I have been able to develop my communication skills as the job I do involves communicating via phone, face to face and by email.”
In addition to her qualification, Lisa is enjoying being able to develop her skills while learning new things as well.
“I enjoy working with customers and helping anyone that needs it, even if I am not able to deal with the particular problem. I also enjoy developing my skills as I like to learn new things and find I that each day I am learning something new.
“I would definitely recommend doing an apprenticeship. I think it’s the best way to get into a career as it gives you experience of the job and helps you to decide what you want to do. The experience you get in an apprenticeship gives you a clear idea of work you would do in a permanent role.”
