A picture of Joe's story

Joe studied Philosophy and Politics at the University of Manchester and completed a Masters in Political Theory at the University of Sheffield.

When I finished University, I was unsure about precisely what career would suit me best. I wanted to find out more about working for a large organisation and I was conscious that I did not want to work for an organisation which was motivated solely by profit. These reasons motivated me to apply to the Sanctuary Graduate Development Programme.

The experience I have gained since starting on the Sanctuary Graduate Development Programme has taught me much about how I work best in a large organisation and about the kind of role I want to pursue in future.

I have completed placements in Development, Housing, Asset Management and Commercial. The scheme has been exactly what I wanted it to be and the roles I have undertaken have given me extensive experience of project management, customer service, data analysis and business planning.

At the end of my time on the scheme, I accepted a role in the commercial team which involved assessing new business opportunities including individual care home development projects, joint venture housing developments and larger commercial acquisitions.

On the scheme, I have been given the opportunity to study the CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting and following the scheme, I plan to become a Chartered Management Accountant to assist me in my role as a member of the Commercial Team.

I would definitely recommend the Sanctuary Development Programme as an opportunity for graduates to further their understanding and knowledge of the kind of career they would like to pursue. I thoroughly enjoy my work and I do not believe that I would be in the same place if it were not for my experiences on the Graduate Development Programme.
