Nicole Seymour – Graduate Case Study

Having always had an interest in working in the not-for-profit sector, Nicole was looking for a graduate programme that shared her values as well as enabling her professional development.

Sanctuary’s Graduate Development Programme stood out to her due to its individualised nature and the wide variety of opportunities offered.

Nicole, who graduated from the University of Warwick with a BA in International Relations and MA in Globalisation and Development, said: “This was reinforced by the enthusiasm of everyone I met throughout the recruitment process. The whole business has a real buzz around it that is hard to ignore.”

During the programme, she undertook placements in a number of business areas, from working on inter-company arrangements in Corporate Services to launching an e-learning programme for Sanctuary Care.

Nicole says the relationships and knowledge she developed were hugely beneficial as she moved into permanent roles within Sanctuary.

“Being on the Graduate Development Programme was a fantastic opportunity for me and provided me with the springboard I needed to start my career,” she said.

In her current role as Group Director – Corporate Services, Nicole is responsible for the services that provide support to our front line operational teams.

This includes human resources, learning and development, communication and engagement, legal and governance, and health and safety teams.

She said: “I am involved in a range of activities – this could be anything from working on our external communications strategy to overseeing the launch of our Staff Awards scheme.”

Nicole says her achievements at Sanctuary are credit to the support the Group has provided to her and the hard work and dedication of the teams she has worked with.

One of her proudest achievements to date came when she was co-opted to join Sanctuary’s Group Board in May 2018.

She said: “The Board is responsible for setting Sanctuary’s vision, strategy and values and making sure policies and plans are in place to deliver our objectives.

“Attending and contributing to board meetings enables me to help ensure that our values and social purpose are embedded across the organisation.”
