Worcester-based Sanctuary Group has embraced International Women’s Day (IWD) by celebrating inspirational women within its ranks.
The leading housing and care provider, which employs 11,000 staff nationwide, is supporting this year’s theme of Be Bold For Change, which calls on people and companies to make changes that can create a better working world for all.
Sanctuary is keen to challenge female stereotypes and support women to advance their careers. Women from the Group have been sharing their success stories throughout IWD on 8 March in the hope of encouraging other women to realise their career dreams.
An interactive internal staff event is also planned at Sanctuary’s offices in Worcester where they are celebrating the achievements of inspirational women in the organisation.
Director of corporate services Nicole Seymour is among speakers at the IWD event highlighting the Group’s work to create a gender inclusive working environment. Sophie Atkinson, director of governance and legal services, who is also chair of Sanctuary’s Equality and Diversity Working Group and a senior LGBT role model, will speak about the importance of gender diversity.

Shining examples of inspirational female staff include Samantha Newton, a 28-year-old trainee quantity surveyor with Sanctuary Maintenance who was the first female employee to be recruited through Sanctuary’s partnership with Women into Construction (WIC).
Anastasia Meredith, project regional manager for Sanctuary Care, is also highlighted for her rise through the ranks since starting her career as a care home activity organiser at the age of 19.
The 38-year-old, whose roles have ranged from a care assistant to the manager of Ravenhurst Care Home in Stourport-on-Severn, commented: “The various positions I have held have 100 per cent helped me achieve. I’ve found that Sanctuary is positive about providing equal opportunities and diversity, so if you have talent, determination and passion, Sanctuary will nurture your potential.”
