Construction students attending North Hertfordshire College in Stevenage are benefiting from external work placements thanks to a new partnership with Sanctuary Group.
New work placement partnership
The leading housing and care provider has joined forces with North Hertfordshire College to provide work experience placements with its multi-trade teams for full-time students studying trade subjects, including plumbing and electrics.
Since its launch in February, the partnership has provided placements for 16 students which has seen them carry out tasks ranging from plumbing repairs and decorating works, to general maintenance at some of Sanctuary’s housing stock in the area.
“A brilliant experience and I learned a lot”
Ricky Mandere, one of the students who has already completed a placement, said: “Working with Sanctuary has been a brilliant experience and I learned a lot so I am very grateful they took us on. The staff were great and very helpful.”
“Relevant experience away from the college”
Gillian Calver, Sanctuary’s regional operations manager in the East, added: “In addition to their theory work it’s important for the students to gain practical and hands-on experience which will be key going forward in their careers. By joining up with Sanctuary’s multi-trade teams, the students are able to get this relevant experience away from the college and in the field that they’re interested in working in.”
“Learn from experienced maintenance teams”
Monelle Bryce-Reid, placements executive from Hart Learning & Development, the commercial arm of Hart Learning Group, part of North Hertfordshire College, commented: “Management and site teams at Sanctuary Group have provided invaluable onsite work experience for our cross-trade students. Students are able to learn from experienced maintenance teams and gain more knowledge and understanding in their choice field, which will help towards future job applications”
