For community-minded Joe, knowing that his work is making a difference to people’s lives all over the country is a huge motivation.

As Sanctuary Group’s Community Investment Officer, Joe is required to coordinate the Employee Volunteering Scheme and source volunteering placements for staff, where they can share their skills with charitable organisations.

In addition, he helps to administer over 400 community investment initiatives that the Group is involved in and funds each year across England and Scotland.

Joe, who has a Leisure Management degree, worked for the National Probation Service and the Police before joining Sanctuary as a Recruitment Administrator in 2016.

The career opportunities and potential to develop new skills with a large employer inspired Joe to successfully apply for the job in his hometown of Worcester.

During his first six months, he took part in a volunteering placement at Worcester Animal Rescue Shelter. This sparked an interest for the work of the Community Investment team and later helped Joe secure his current role.

Joe’s biggest achievement is organising a charity football match which raised over £2,800 for Onside Independent Advocacy, Sanctuary’s Worcester Charity of the Year for 2019. He is also proud to have run in the Worcester 10k for Worcester Foodbank, as well as being part of the Group’s cricket team.

He said: “The best part of my role is getting out in the community. I can meet and talk to lots of new people and see all the great work that charitable organisations are doing.

“The thought of being able to come to work knowing what you are doing is making a real difference to people’s lives all over the country is a really nice feeling and a good motivator.

“It’s the thank you messages after some of the volunteering placements – whether they’re from a charity or an employee – that make it all worthwhile.”
