Sanctuary Housing is proud to support Get Online Week, a campaign aimed at increasing people’s confidence using computers and the internet.

Led by Good Things Foundation, the initiative runs from 14 to 20 October and inspires organisations like Sanctuary to make sure that everyone can take part in the digital world and get more from life online.

Statistics show that 5.3 million people in the UK have never been online and there are 11.9 million people who don’t have the essential digital skills to navigate life and work.

Twenty-four residents have received Sanctuary Online training from our partners We Are Digital since April 2019. This has given residents of all skill levels an opportunity to learn how to use technology for the first time or expand on existing knowledge.

Sanctuary Online sessions are led by a friendly tutor who will cover a variety of topics including job seeking techniques, connecting with others through the internet or managing money and benefits online.

Residents can decide whether to take the bespoke classes in the comfort of their own home or as part of a welcoming group environment in their community.

Alison Kenny, Sanctuary’s head of partnerships, said: “Sanctuary Online aims to boost the confidence of as many of our residents as possible, in an ever-increasingly digital driven world.”

“Our staff have encouraged residents to sign up and have enjoyed hearing positive feedback about the difference it has made.”

During Get Online Week, we will share success stories from residents whose lives have changed for the better after gaining new skills from the workshops.
