A picture of Bruce Rawlinson – Maintenance Surveyor

A fascination with buildings and a passion for problem solving have helped Bruce to develop a successful career in surveying.

Bruce, who considers his colleagues a ‘family unit’, oversees maintenance in the South West, managing large scale projects, compliance and contracts.

Having started work as a builder, Bruce completed NVQs in both Electrical Insulation and Bricklaying. With ambition to climb the career ladder, he later decided to study for a degree in Building Surveying at Coventry University.

Upon graduating in 2011, he joined Sanctuary as an Assets Surveyor, carrying out compliance checks of buildings on a part-time basis. Bruce soon became a full-time member of staff when the demand for his skills increased, alongside the growth of the Group.

It was Bruce’s next role that got him where he is today. As an Area Surveyor, he oversaw all elements of surveying and repairs, including dilapidation, damp and mould reporting, problems with lifts, fire risk assessment and cyclical redecoration.

He said: “My job enables me to put my problem solving skills into practice and take a holistic approach to discovering the cause of building defects.

“Thanks to a supportive network of co-workers - who I think of as a family unit - and regular training offered by Sanctuary, my work is enjoyable, challenging and rewarding.”
