Sue Newell is able to really embrace her love of cooking in her role working for Sanctuary Retirement Living.

Based at Baird Lodge in Ely, Assistant Cook Sue started her career with Sanctuary as Scheme Assistant, but jumped at the chance to move into the kitchen when the job came up.

Her role covers a variety of responsibilities, including preparing and cooking residents’ meals, stocktaking and serving in the dining room.

Working closely with residents on the menus, the whole kitchen team come together to offer a wide choice and ensure the meals are nutritious and good value for money.

One of Sue’s favourite parts of her job is engaging with the residents and taking part in cooking activities at the service.

She said: “It’s a real compliment when residents ask me to get involved in their events. I have made a few cakes for fetes we have held at Baird Lodge which raise money for the activities fund.

“I really feel looked after working here. We have a great, friendly team and there is always useful training available for us.”
