Silver lining for Sanctuary Extra Care scheme

The Sanctuary Care team at Roman Ridge extra care home were winners at the National Housing for Older People Awards.

Staff from a Sanctuary extra care scheme in Sheffield were celebrating earlier this week when they scooped a silver award from theElderly Accommodation Counsel (EAC).

The team, who work atRoman Ridge extra care scheme in Lavender Way, had been nominated by their own residents for the award in the ‘Housing with Care 60-99 Units’ category at the EAC’s third annualNational Housing for Older People Awards.

The ceremony took place on Monday, 21 May in London at sponsorLegal and General’s offices where over 100 professionals gathered, including housing providers, managers, commissioners and developers.

Roman Ridge’s manager Alan Taylor, who attended the event, said: “We were absolutely thrilled to receive this award. I would like to pay tribute to my team at Roman Ridge whose hard work and dedication to our residents made all of this possible.

“This award is particularly special because it was our residents who nominated us and it is for them that we do what we do.”

The EAC Housing Awards were launched three years ago and by May 2012 over 10,000 older people will have been empowered by participating directly in the resident’s consultation initiative.

The largest consumer exercise of its type the awards report on housing choice, lifestyle, management, services, and wellbeing and this year 2799 residents took part, nominating 298 schemes across the country.
