SummerFest, Banbury, Cherwell

More than 400 people soaked up the sun at Banbury’s popular SummerFest.

Hosted by the Sunshine Centre and with support from Sanctuary, the event focused on improving health, fitness and aspiration.

Families were kept entertained with a whole host of activities, including woodland activities, tug of war, storytelling and dance performances.

The crowd, made up primarily of Sanctuary residents, also had the opportunity to explore healthy eating by learning recipes for quick lunches and producing their own DIY picnic from the Banbury Cooking Skills project.

Sanctuary provided £700 of funding for the event and more than 90 hours support was secured from volunteers, including Sanctuary Housing staff, helping to make the event a success.

Other partners included Cherwell District Council, Oxfordshire Play Association, Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group and Banbury Town Council.

Kate Winstanley, Sanctuary’s Neighbourhood Partnership Manager, said: “All those months of hard work in the run up to the event all paid off and what a fantastic day we had.

“Our support for this event continues our work to ensure our residents live happy, healthy and fulfilled lives and I think it’s fair to say, judging by the feedback we’ve received, that SummerFest did just that.”
