James Allen – Graduate Case Study

Being part of Sanctuary’s graduate programme has given James the chance to develop a variety of skills across the Group.

His Sanctuary journey began in the Care Business Transformation team working on projects seeking efficiencies, solutions and improvements to transform the Group’s care homes.

These included the co-management of a £3 million technology project upgrading nurse call systems, developing a maintenance savings tracking tool and creating a piece of analysis focusing on community engagement in care homes.

It was a placement that provided James with real responsibility and opportunities to have a lasting and positive impact on the lives of residents while also allowing a significant amount of personal development.

His second placement took in the finance and operations teams within Development, split into two three-month periods.

As part of the finance team, James was responsible for an in-depth analysis of capitalised staff costs, the investigation of contractor procurement and the management of a project exploring alternative business vehicles.

Key pieces of work within the operations team included the creation of a tracking solution to enable directors to see when developments are nearing completion, as well as conducting a financial feasibility appraisal for a new development site.

James, who has a BA in War Studies from the University of Birmingham, said: “With the opportunity to work with four different teams across the Group over two years, the programme offers a near unparalleled insight into Sanctuary’s diverse, dynamic, innovative and socially conscious business areas.

“Graduates get both a fully rounded and holistic view of everything the company does but are also provided with incredible opportunities for learning, development and growth.”
